Why Am I Failing ID Verification?

Four reasons account for almost every KYC failure. Each one has a specific fix. Try them in order.

1. Bad lighting

Most common cause. The camera can't read the ID or your face clearly.

Fix:

  • Move into a well-lit room, ideally near a window during daylight.
  • Avoid backlight — don't have a window or lamp directly behind you (it makes your face dark).
  • Avoid harsh shadows — overhead fluorescents create them.
  • The light should hit your ID from the front and slightly above.
  • For the selfie, your face should be evenly lit with no half-shadow.

2. Blurry photo

The camera was moving, the lens was dirty, or the focus didn't lock.

Fix:

  • Wipe your camera lens with a clean cloth.
  • Hold the device steady — rest your elbows on a table if needed.
  • Tap the screen to focus before taking the photo.
  • For the ID, lay it flat on a table rather than holding it.
  • For the selfie, turn off any beauty filters or face-smoothing — they confuse the liveness check.

3. Expired ID

The expiration date on your ID has passed.

Fix:

  • Use a different valid ID (passport, state ID, or current driver's license).
  • Or renew your ID at the relevant agency (DMV / passport office) and try again.

We do not accept:

  • Expired IDs (even by one day).
  • IDs that look damaged enough that the expiration date is unreadable.
  • Temporary paper IDs in most jurisdictions (varies by state).

4. Name mismatch

The name you entered in your Fansit account doesn't exactly match the name on your ID.

Fix:

  • Check the exact spelling including middle names, hyphens, suffixes (Jr, Sr, III).
  • Update your name in Settings → Account to exactly match your ID.
  • If your legal name changed (marriage, divorce, court order) and your ID hasn't been updated yet, get the ID updated first. The ID is the source of truth.

Names need to match for legal recordkeeping (§2257) and for payout compliance. If your bank account is in your married name and your ID is in your maiden name, your payouts will fail. Get them aligned before requesting a payout.

Less common reasons

  • Document not from a supported country. Incode supports most major issuers but not all. If yours isn't supported, contact support@fansit.com.
  • Using someone else's ID. Don't. The liveness check catches this and we'll permanently terminate the account.
  • Multiple failed attempts in a short window. After 5+ failures in 24 hours, Incode locks you out for security reasons. Wait 24 hours and try again with a different setup.
  • Holding the ID at a bad angle. Some IDs have holographic security features that confuse Incode at certain angles. Try tilting the ID slightly.

When all else fails

Email support@fansit.com with:

  • The error message Incode showed.
  • Which step failed (front photo, back photo, selfie, liveness).
  • Whether you've tried each fix above.
  • Your country of ID issuance and ID type.

Don't attach your ID. We can usually identify the issue from the metadata Incode returned.
