Offering Monthly vs Annual Plans

You can offer fans the choice of monthly or annual subscriptions. Most creators offer both. Here's how to think about the tradeoffs.

Why offer annual

  • Locks in revenue. Annual subs prepay, so you get the cash upfront and there's no churn risk for 12 months.
  • Reduces support load. Fewer renewal-related questions and dispute rates.
  • Filters for serious fans. Annual subs spend more on PPV and tips on top of the subscription.
  • Smooths cash flow. The lump sum up front helps when you have a big shoot or production cost.

Why offer monthly

  • Lower commitment threshold. Most fans only want to commit one month at a time.
  • Higher conversion on first sub. A 600 FB/month commitment is easier than 5,000 FB up front.
  • Easier for promo testing. You can A/B price changes faster.

Recommended pricing pattern

Offer both. Price the annual plan at 30–40% off the monthly equivalent.

Example:

  • Monthly: 600 FB
  • Annual: 4,800 FB (33% off, equivalent to 400 FB/month)

This gives fans a clear reason to pick annual — they save 30%+ — and the annual revenue is locked in.

What share goes annual

Across creators offering both:

  • 70–85% of new subs pick monthly.
  • 15–30% of new subs pick annual.

The annual share goes up when:

  • The discount is steeper.
  • You actively promote the annual option in posts and DMs.
  • You hit a milestone (e.g., 1-year platform anniversary) and run an annual-specific promo.

How to set it up

  1. Settings → Subscriptions.
  2. Set your monthly price.
  3. Toggle Enable annual plan on.
  4. Set your annual price.
  5. Save.

The annual option appears as a second button on your subscribe modal: "Subscribe — 600 FB/month" or "Subscribe annually — 4,800 FB (Save 33%)".

Cancelling annual subs

Annual subs can be cancelled by fans any time, but cancellation just stops auto-renewal — no pro-rated cash refund. Fans keep access for the full year they paid for.

A fan can dispute the annual transaction within 30 days of purchase for a partial FanBucks credit covering the unused portion. We approve these case-by-case.

Annual + free trial

You can stack a free trial onto the annual plan. The flow:

  1. Fan starts a 7-day free trial.
  2. After 7 days, the fan is charged the full annual price.
  3. The annual sub runs for 365 days from the charge date.

Stack carefully — fans hit with a large annual charge they forgot about have a high dispute rate. Most creators only offer the free trial on monthly, not annual.
