How You Earn During a Stream
Live streams have four revenue paths. The biggest earners use all of them.
1. Tips
Fans tap the tip icon in the stream chat and send any FanBucks amount. Tips:
- Show up in the chat with the fan's username and amount.
- Trigger a visual notification on your stream feed (you can customize the alert).
- Have no minimum or maximum.
- Are non-refundable as voluntary gratuities.
Tips are the highest-volume revenue stream during live broadcasts. Acknowledge them on camera — fans tip more when they get noticed.
2. Tip menus
A tip menu is a preset list of actions and the corresponding tip amount. Fans tap a tip-menu item to send the tip and request that specific action.
Examples:
- "Wave hi — 50 FB."
- "Sing my favorite line — 200 FB."
- "Show the new ring — 500 FB."
Tip menus convert better than open tipping because fans know exactly what they're getting. See Setting Up a Tip Menu.
3. Private stream tickets
Private streams are ticket-gated — fans pay a one-time FanBucks price to join the live and (optionally) get the recording.
Pricing patterns:
- 300–1,500 FB for short, focused private streams.
- 2,000–5,000 FB for longer, premium private streams.
- 5,000+ FB for 1-on-1 or small-group exclusive streams.
Private streams convert at much lower volume than tips but at much higher revenue per attendee. See Hosting Private Streams.
4. Stream Recordings (post-stream)
If you enable auto-record on a public or subscriber-only stream, the recording can be sold as PPV after the live ends:
- Set a price.
- Fans who didn't catch it live (or want to rewatch) buy access.
- Lifetime PPV access applies — fans keep it forever.
Stream Recordings often earn more after the live than during it, especially for streams that weren't ticketed. See Stream Recordings.
Total earnings example
A typical 90-minute stream from an established creator might earn:
- Tips: 8,000 FB (30 fans tipping average 250 FB).
- Tip menu items: 6,000 FB (12 menu purchases).
- PPV unlocks during the stream: 3,000 FB (6 unlocks at 500 FB each).
- Stream Recording PPV (post-stream): 5,000 FB (10 unlocks at 500 FB each).
- Total: 22,000 FB ≈ $66 cash-out.
This scales steeply with audience size. Top streamers can clear 100,000+ FB per stream.
Maximizing tips during streams
- Acknowledge every tip on camera — fans want recognition.
- Set audible/visual tip alerts that the audience can see and hear.
- Use a tip goal — "1,000 FB to do X" creates urgency and group dynamics.
- Run timed challenges — "next 30 minutes, double tips trigger Y."
- Engage chat constantly — silence kills tip flow.
What kills tips
- No engagement. Just streaming the content without talking.
- Constantly asking for tips with no value provided.
- Ignoring fans who tip. They notice immediately.
- Long technical breaks without warning.
Stream like a host. The content is the draw, but the relationship is the conversion.
